Concordance
Search for one or more words
You may want to explore how some words develop opposite meanings. If you search for the word forfordele, the query tool will return all the sentences in which this word is used.
A search result containing such a list is called a concordance. Read more about concordances and how you can adjust the search result to suit your needs by sorting, reducing or exporting the text examples.
The search mode is flexible and allows you to search for an exact word form, for all or just a selection of inflected forms, and you can also query by means of so-called regular expressions (a kind of wild cards). It is possible to search for several words in the same string to see how they are used, for example spille bold eller sort arbejde. If needed, you can specify the distance between words in an expression. Further details are provided in the help texts for the relevant search options.
Please note that the text examples in the corpus are not necessarily correct language. The texts are authentic bits of language and are rendered just as they were written by the authors including misspellings, typos and other kinds of linguistic entanglement. Read more about linguistic pitfalls.
Several kinds of queries
It varies from query to query how precise the search expression needs to be formulated – depending on what you are looking for. At KorpusDK a query for text examples may be formulated in 3 different ways:
- Standard search: One or several words are inserted in the search box. This is the simplest form of query.
- Extended search: A search expression is constructed word by word, and for each word it is possible to specify various search parameters, including part of speech and which part of the word is queried.
- Formal search: In some situations it is necessary to formulate an exact query. The Formal search option gives you full command of the powerful query syntax which is used by the underlying query tool.
Please observe that your expression is preserved in the search box when you change the query mode. You can enter a standard query, get a "translation" of it when changing to the Formal search mode and continue to work on it there. In this way you can gradually become acquainted with the language used in formal queries.
